Showers greeted the 17 teams fishing Noosa in round 3 of the Hooked On Catch & Release Mixed Species Comp, luckily they cleared soon after the start.

Again most teams headed towards the lower end of the river in search of fish.

Tuff Team - father & son team, Eddy & Kris Sweres - ended up taking home 1st place and $300 worth of Prizes. They landed 8 legal fish and 4 different species. They started fishing the Frying Pan area, with a game plan of try to catch Flathead, Whiting, Bream, Trevally or Tailor in that area. This didn't take long with Eddy nailing a flathead on his 2nd cast on the ever popular Squidgy Wriggler Wasabi 100mm.

Tuff Team use a 2 prong attack of Eddy the surface using a popper and Kris fishing the Squidgy Wriggler slow off the bottom. This plan worked with Eddy landing a nice 34cm Whiting on his Stiffy Popper and Kris nailing Bream, Flathead and a Trevally on his Bloodworm 100mm Wriggler. Then things went quiet so Tuff team made a move and fished the boats on the way back to the start were they landed 2 bream 10 mins before the finish, on their favourite Squidgy Wrigglers and this was enough for them to take home the Prizes.

Team JJ’s took out 2nd place for the 2nd comp in a row, just being pipped by 0.3 of a point. The boys fished a different plan by sticking to what they are good at and just targeting Bream. They start fishing jetties and boats right from the starting line with the boys fishing the Yacht Club jetties, then just kept hopping from jetty to boat all the way to the sound and back. Team JJ’s using a mix of the new Ecogear Aqua Prawn, Ecogear Pink Grubs, Squidgy Wrigglers & Teimco Stick Baits fishing these lures on 4lb fluorocarbon line straight through to improve their catch of the spooky fish. Their bag compiled of 11 Legal bream biggest being 30.5cm to the fork.

Taking out 3rd was The Jewhunters of Matt Cockram & Jamie Anderson. The jewhunters were one of the few teams to head upstream to get there fish. They fished the area around the start of the first lake to get their bag of 6 legal fish and 3 species. Matt fished the Squidgy wriggler too land 2 GT Trevally and a Bream and Jamie fished Berkley Gulps to land a Flathead and 2 Bream.

All up there were 41 legal fish caught with most teams catching heaps of under size fish making it a very enjoyable morning fishing in Noosa. I would like to thank all the team who entered for a great morning. Don’t forget the next round is May 20th so get your entries in now.

Found a gap in this bad offshore weather and went out and do some bottom bashing with plastics and bait.

Headed to Sunshine just for a quick arvo session. As soon as we anchored up there was a roaring current going north it was hard to set hooks with the massive belly of line that the current created. When you did set a hook- boy did you need to hold on! We even had some brickings on the 80lb.

As soon as you feel the fish grab your plastic you need to wind your heart out just to get the belly of line out and stop the fish from going back into its rocky hole.

Throughout the session we managed some solid sweet lip and a nice cod. Nothing crazy but I just thought I would give you guys some info on what's going on offshore,

bream

The river we have been getting heaps of little trevally and jewfish and my mate Jackon even managed this horse bream from Noosa Waters which measured 37cm to the fork and 41cm to the tip

Cheers,
James
